How to take care of a silk scarf: care in four steps

2 min read

Silk is tougher than many people think. With the right care, a silk scarf stays soft and colourful for years. Here is how to wash, dry, iron and store your silk scarf.

Hand-washing silk

  • Fill a basin with cold water.

  • Add a small amount of mild detergent for delicates.

  • Move the scarf gently through the water without rubbing.

  • Rinse it in clear, cold water.

Alternatively, take the scarf to a dry cleaner.

Drying

Do not wring the scarf and do not put it in the dryer. Lay it flat on a towel and let it dry lying flat, away from direct sunlight.

Ironing

Iron the scarf on the reverse side at a low temperature while it is still slightly damp. This protects the printed front.

Storing

Store the scarf away from sunlight, for example loosely folded in a drawer. This keeps the colours of the print bright for a long time.

Why care pays off

beyondSilk scarves are crêpe de Chine, 100 % silk, 100 × 100 cm, with a hand-rolled hem. They were printed in Mitlödi before the printing works closed at the end of 2023. There will be no reprint: well cared for, your scarf will stay with you for many years.
